Tesla’s China Plant May Have Helped Boost Q2 Results
Tesla has had to shut down its main car plant for weeks, something that the chief executive, Elon Musk, hasn’t been too excited about. However, it appears as though the manufacturer may have still managed to deliver around 82,000 vehicles last quarter. This is due to the fact that Tesla’s new plant in China, near Shanghai, has begun delivering cars to customers since January.
The coronavirus pandemic had already set a low bar in terms of Tesla car deliveries, but Shanghai has clearly helped boost Tesla’s Q2 results. The chief executive of Tesla, Elon Musk, has previously stated that the company may have been able to avoid a loss this quarter.
The company has also resumed production at its Fremont plant, which was closed from mid-March to mid-May. Tesla had originally stated that the carmaker would produce 500,000 vehicles this year, but it is unclear whether they will be able to meet that goal.
The lockdown has been a huge concern for the company, but some analysts believe that Tesla has weathered the pandemic to the point where it may remain profitable. This is significant because it could mean that Tesla gets included in the S&P 500 Index. Tesla is expected to release Q2 results sometime this week.
