Tutorial: How to Get Maximum Range in the Tesla Model Y
With so many options and features available on Tesla’s newest vehicle, our tutorial series dives into the specifics one by one. We all know the Tesla Model Y boasts an impressive maximum range. However, if you’re not driving the vehicle properly, then it’s difficult to achieve the maximum range. In this week’s tutorial, we’ll take a look at how you can make sure you’re reaching the car’s full range potential. Follow along on page 76 of the Tesla Model Y Owner’s Manual.
There are many factors that contribute to the range you’re able to achieve on a full charge. While there are some factors that are out of your control, such as the environment, there are many ways your driving habits affect the vehicle’s range, too.
To get maximum range in your Model Y, Tesla suggests the following:
- Avoid rapid acceleration and hard braking; slow down.
- Make use of regenerative braking in the Model Y. If it’s safe, “modulate the accelerator pedal instead of using the brake pedal when gradually slowing down.”
- Set Stopping Mode to HOLD. This enables regenerative braking at low speeds.
- Maintain recommended tire pressure.
- Raise all windows fully.
- Remove any unnecessary cargo from the back seats, trunk, and front trunk areas.
- Limit the use of heating, air conditioning, and excess lights. Tip: seat warmers are more efficient than heating the cabin.
There are many ways to monitor your vehicle’s energy usage and charge. Make use of the Energy app to view real-time data and adjust your habits to meet the Model Y’s maximum range.
