Tesla 2020.24.5 Software Update Rolling Out in the U.S. with New Features

Once again, Tesla delivered a new software update to drivers with its over-the-air system. As always, the update shows Tesla’s attention to detail and its ability to listen to its customer base. With a slew of new features and upgrades, software update 2020.24 brings some excitement to each and every Tesla vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at some of the specifics.

A recent screenshot posted on twitter by @arturo2511 showcases the release notes from update 2020.24, as the latter was released in Belgium last night, the user tells Tesla North. The update in Belgium comes from a service center we are told and not the early access program.

As hinted at in previous software updates, 2020.24 brings some enhancements to vehicle visualization. A popular Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control beta test mode that received lots of attention among Tesla drivers preceded these changes. With visualization updates, vehicles can now display objects such as stop lights and select road markings

The 2020.24 software update was also released in China, with @xiaoteshushu sharing videos of the new features in action:

According to @Teslascope, Tesla software update 2020.24.5 was first detected on Wednesday evening on a Model 3 LR AWD (2018) in Michigan, in the United States.

The release notes continue, detailing some backup camera improvements. This update brings some major safety upgrades to drivers. Using video streams from side repeater cameras, drivers now have greater control over viewing the footage that their vehicle’s cameras are picking up.

In addition to this live backup camera view, the update also improves the dashcam viewer. Visual additions to the video scrubber work with Sentry Mode to indicate any moments that trigger Sentry Mode. These places are marked with red dots on the scrubber. The release notes also detail a new project with the cabin camera that allows drivers to send data to Tesla for future improvements.

Finally, the new update brings an interesting battery feature to drivers. With On-Route Battery Warmup, vehicles precondition their batteries when navigating to third party charging stations. The touchscreen displays these third party stations in addition to Tesla Supercharger stations.

What do you think about the new Tesla 2020.24.5 software update? Stay tuned as this update continues to roll out over-the-air to more Tesla vehicles.
