Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package offers some additional features and advantages when compared to the base package. As a result, the company recently announced a price increase for the FSD package coming up on July 1st, 2020. But what about those who drive older vehicles that need a newer computer in order to run the latest full self-driving features?

Some Model S owners have begun to show reports of notifications regarding their vehicles’ full self-driving capability upgrades. One such user, Byshop303 on reddit, shared an image showcasing Tesla’s update on Full Self-Driving computers.

As the post states, “the FSD upgrade is done at the same time as the MCU upgrade if you opt for it.” In order to maintain optimal performance for FSD features, drivers with older computers in their vehicles need to request upgrades. As stated in the screenshot shared on reddit, the upgrade is complimentary. All drivers need to do is select an appointment date.

Installing a new computer clears drivers to make use of the new Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control beta mode. But the hardware upgrade also permits access to future software updates that include robust safety and navigation features. In addition to the FSD price increase coming up in July, Tesla also speculated on a subscription package option for the future.
