Subscription Option in the Works for Tesla Full Self-Driving Feature

The Tesla Q1 earnings call shed some light on many things. Of course, a positive update on the electric vehicle manufacturer’s performance in the first quarter despite numerous setbacks was prominent. However, some other Tesla news also came to the surface. In a statement from Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk, it appears as though the Tesla Full Self-Driving features will soon be available in subscription format.

In the past, the Full-Self Driving features offered by Tesla were only available as a paid upgrade. While Tesla vehicles come with all necessary hardware to perform key Full Self-Driving features, drivers have to pay to activate the enhancements. Earlier in April, Elon Musk even tweeted to suggest that prices for the features will increase in July. As it stands, customers must pay $7,000 USD or $9815 CAD to activate Full-Self Driving features.

However, under the new subscription model, the features will be more feasible for the average budget. In the earnings call on Wednesday, Elon Musk said, “I think we will also be having it as a subscription service, but it will be towards the end of this year.” With more reason to add the Full-Self Driving package to any Tesla vehicle, the news of a subscription service serves as a welcome update to many Tesla enthusiasts.
