Tesla and the state of California have had their fair share of disagreements in recent times. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, some preventative shelter at home orders made production impossible for the electric vehicle maker. Further local restrictions in Alameda County perturbed Tesla, leading to threats from Elon Musk suggesting that Tesla might move out of California. However, California Governor Gavin Newsom said he’s not worried about Tesla leaving the state.
News sources at CNBC’s Fast Money interviewed Newsom about Tesla. The Governor stated, “I’m also not worried about Elon leaving anytime soon.” He continued, “I’ve had a lot of conversations with him, and we’re committed to the success and the innovation and the low-carbon, green growth economy that he’s been promoting for decades and the state of California is accelerating in.”
The threats to leave California seemed speculative. However, Tesla made some recent moves that suggest a diversity in its locations. For one, they’re ramping up production in Shanghai to further capture the Asian market. The company also announced plans for a new facility in Austin, Texas. After all, Elon Musk even met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott to discuss moving the company to the state.
