Model Y Heat Pump vs Model 3 eAC Compressor [VIDEO]

There has been lots of talk about the new Model Y heat pump. For one, the addition makes the Model Y more friendly to those driving in winter climates. It also aids in making the vehicle more efficient. But how does the Model Y heat pump stack up against the Model 3’s eAC? Another excellent breakdown video from Munro Live invites viewers to take a look at a comparison between the Model 3 eAC and the Model Y heat pump.

There are a few key differences to note right from the start. As Munro Live mentions, noise is a big issue when it comes to air compressors. Those found in the Model 3 were encased in a plastic enclosure meant to reduce noise. However, the Model Y heat pump takes a different approach. Because the heat pump is allowed to move and shake with the motion of the vehicle, it reduces the amount of noise generated. As mentioned, most typical heat pumps use dispersal valves and piping to cycle energy throughout the vehicle.
A single radiator installed in the Model Y also contributes to the vehicle’s cooling capabilities. Keeping components cool is essential to the Model Y and other vehicles out on the road. Rather than using multiple radiators, the Model Y keeps things simple once again.
