Tesla Searches for the Ideal Location for New U.S. Cybertruck Gigafactory
There was lots of hype about the initial Tesla Cybertruck reveal. However, there wasn’t much talk about how (or where) the vehicle would be manufactured. Now, in a recent statement by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, consideration for Tesla’s new Cybertruck Gigafactory has begun.
In a recent tweet, Musk states, “Scouting locations for Cybertruck Gigafactory. Will be central USA.” Judging by the vague nature of the tweet, it’s difficult to confirm an exact location at this stage. Some sources, such as TechCrunch, speculate that Nashville, Tennessee is in the running for top candidates.
In any case, the central United States has become more appealing to electric vehicle manufacturers in recent years. For one, the region is able to support a Tesla Gigafactory. Additionally, many people believe that Tesla would like the opportunity to expand out from the west coast. The majority of their current models are constructed in Fremont, California. Of course, the economic boon of bringing jobs to the central US cannot be overlooked.
The announcement of the search for new factory land comes on the heels of Tesla making room for a new factory in Berlin, Germany. Established in 2018, the Shanghai Gigafactory also marked a major milestone for Tesla. As excitement for the Model Y and Cybertruck increases, the new Tesla Gigafactory will provide a much needed manufacturing expansion to meet consumer demand.
