Grok Bot Usage Limits Draw Complaints as Musk Vows to Investigate
Elon Musk says Grok Bot fixes for token efficiency and smarter behavior are underway after a subscriber said his US$200 plan ran out in 14 hours.

Grok Bot fixes aimed at “improved token efficiency and smarter behavior are underway,” Elon Musk said Sunday morning, shortly after a subscriber complained on X that his US$200 plan now runs out in hours instead of days.
The thread began Saturday with a question from @Texas_Twins_Dad: “What do you do when your Grok Bot runs out of usage?” Musk answered late that night, asking, “Is it not one-click-easy to increase usage?”
Derek Neighbors, a CTO who posts as @dneighbors, said that wasn’t the issue. “Problem is last week a $200 plan lasted 7 days full throttle. This week it lasts 14hrs under moderate load,” he wrote. Musk replied Sunday at 6:01 a.m. MT: “I will dig into this today.” His post about fixes followed about 16 minutes later.
Neighbors’ numbers are his own account of his usage and have not been independently verified. Musk did not give a timeline for the fixes, say what they will change, or say whether they will affect weekly limits or plan prices. His fixes post was a standalone message, not a direct reply to Neighbors.
For context, xAI’s official Grok Bot page lists three individual plans. Premium costs US$30 a month and includes weekly Grok Bot usage, Super costs US$100 with 3.5 times Premium usage, and Ultra costs US$200 with 12 times Premium usage. That puts Neighbors’ plan at the Ultra price point, though he did not name the tier.
Usage complaints have surfaced over the past week. On November 1, Musk said the cost of serving Grok Bot was “unsustainably high relative to revenue” as users ran into weekly limits, and the next day some subscribers said their usage meters jumped to 100% mid-week.
The fixes announcement does not confirm a higher weekly allowance. For now, Musk has committed to improvements without detailing how they will affect subscribers.
