Alphabet Reports $83.7 Billion SpaceX Stake in SEC Filing
Alphabet disclosed 555 million SpaceX Class A shares worth $83.7 billion as of September 30, up in share count but down in value from June.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, disclosed a SpaceX shareholding valued at $83.7 billion as of September 30, making the rocket company by far the largest position in its latest quarterly securities holdings report.
The Form 13F filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on November 6 lists 555,043,560 shares of Space Exploration Technologies Corp.’s Class A common stock, with a reported value of $83,733,871,462. All dollar figures are in U.S. currency.

That amounts to approximately 94.8% of the $88.35 billion in holdings disclosed in this particular filing. It does not mean Alphabet owns 94.8% of SpaceX, or that the position represents that percentage of Alphabet’s entire investment portfolio.
The comparison with June is striking. Alphabet’s previous quarterly report listed 551,189,500 SpaceX shares worth $94.18 billion. The latest count is 3,854,060 shares higher, an increase of roughly 0.7%, even as the reported value fell by $10.44 billion, or about 11.1%.
The filings do not explain the increase in shares, so the change should not automatically be read as a new purchase. They also identify different included managers for the position: Google LLC in June and XXVI Holdings Inc. in September, both within Alphabet’s reporting group.
The disclosure offers another look at a major investor following SpaceX’s June stock market debut. The September figures are a quarter-end snapshot, not the stake’s current market value or the amount Alphabet originally paid.
Alphabet’s ties to SpaceX are also in focus after Donald Harrison left SpaceX’s board over conflicts of interest with Alphabet, according to Musk. The holdings report covers an earlier date and does not connect the shareholding change to Harrison’s departure.
For readers tracking the relationship, the distinction matters: this filing documents a large reported holding, but it does not establish Alphabet’s total ownership percentage, its trading strategy or the reason for the board change.
