Tesla Engineer Says Cybercab Rider Cameras Are Coming

Tesla is working on a way for Cybercab riders to pull up the car’s rear and side repeater cameras on the cabin screen whenever they want. Tesla UI software engineer Evan (@CarCoder) confirmed it on X Friday night with two words: “In development.”
Right now, the Cybercab’s cabin screen shows riders a live visualization of what the car sees, plus the map, trip ETA, music and climate controls. What it doesn’t offer is a direct look through the cameras themselves.
That gap came up in a post from rider Dan Burkland, who shared photos of the Cybercab’s infotainment screen during an evening ride. He praised the UI team’s work, then made a single request: let riders pull up the rear and repeater cameras on demand, “especially for peace of mind.”
The Tesla UI team absolutely crushed it with the infotainment software. Nicely done @CarCoder!
One feature request: Allow folks to pull up the rear & repeater cameras on demand. This would be great especially for peace of mind.

Evan replied less than an hour later.
@DBurkland In development

For a car with no steering wheel and no driver, being able to see what’s behind and beside you matters. It’s the kind of check a passenger might want before opening a door onto a busy street, or just to see what the car is reacting to.
Tesla hasn’t said when the feature will ship, how riders would open the camera views, or whether it will come to Model Y Robotaxis too. Evan’s reply is the only word on it so far.
The timing fits a busy stretch for the Cybercab. Tesla has scaled its Austin Cybercab fleet to more than 300 vehicles, and owners are spotting small software tweaks in the wild, like a Cybercab shortening its door swing to miss a fence.
Would you use rear camera views as a Cybercab rider, or is the visualization enough?
