Starlink Mobile is now available in Kazakhstan through Beeline, bringing satellite-to-phone connectivity to compatible devices when cellular coverage is unavailable and expanding Starlink’s reach into Central Asia.
The new service uses Starlink’s Direct to Cell technology, allowing ordinary smartphones to connect to satellites without requiring a dedicated satellite phone, antenna, or additional equipment. The connection activates automatically when a device is outside traditional mobile network coverage and satellite conditions allow it.
Starlink announced the launch on September 28, saying the service is now available to millions of people in Kazakhstan through Beeline. The company said, “Starlink Mobile is now available to millions of people in Kazakhstan with @_Beeline_kz. The new service provides resilient connectivity via apps and messaging in areas without cell signal.”
Kazakhstan becomes the first country in Central Asia where Direct to Cell technology has completed practical testing and moved into a consumer service. The initial rollout supports messaging and basic internet services, with Beeline subscribers receiving access at no cost during the promotional period.
Eligible users can activate Starlink Mobile by updating the Janymda app, enabling the Starlink feature, and turning on data roaming. The service currently works with compatible Android devices, while support for additional platforms is expected later.
Starlink Mobile is designed to complement existing mobile networks rather than replace them. The service is aimed at extending connectivity to areas where traditional infrastructure is limited, including remote communities, highways, and mountainous regions.
For Kazakhstan, the technology could provide another option for staying connected across a country with large rural areas where building and maintaining cellular infrastructure can be challenging. The satellite connection is intended for situations where users move beyond the reach of ground-based networks.
The launch is another step in Starlink’s effort to bring satellite connectivity directly to smartphones through partnerships with mobile carriers. The company has been working with telecom operators to expand Direct to Cell availability and introduce more services over time.
The next stage will focus on broader device support and additional capabilities as the network and carrier partnerships expand. Starlink and Beeline will also continue testing how the service performs across different regions and real-world conditions.
