Tesla Reopens Roadster Reservations With $50,000 Deposit

Tesla is taking new Roadster reservations again with a $50,000 refundable deposit, according to the company’s live order page, days ahead of the next-gen sports car’s October 1 reveal tease.
The checkout flow on tesla.com/roadster/reserve breaks the payment into two steps:
- $5,000 due today by credit card
- $45,000 wire transfer due within 10 days
- Total deposit: $50,000
- Tesla labels the deposit fully refundable
- Reservations are not final until the wire clears
That structure matches the long-standing Roadster hold-your-spot deposit rather than a full vehicle purchase. The reserve page does not currently show a confirmed retail price for the finished car, and it does not list a production or delivery date.
The reopen lands less than two weeks before Tesla’s October 1 Roadster date, which the company floated with its “Go for launch” teaser earlier this month. Buyers who reserved after the November 2017 unveil have already waited through multiple slipped demo and production windows, with Musk previously pointing customer builds toward 2027 or 2028.
Tesla still markets the same headline performance claims on the Roadster page, including a top speed above 250 mph and about 620 miles of range. Those figures remain promotional specs until the company shows a production-intent car and final numbers at the October event.
For now, the hard fact on the order page is simpler: Tesla wants another $50,000 refundable commitment if you want a fresh place in the Roadster queue.
