Tesla delivered an estimated 2,000 vehicles in Japan during July, marking its best July performance to date in the country. Sales surged 95 percent compared to the same month last year and jumped 91 percent over April, the opening month of the previous quarter.
The strong start to the third quarter gives Tesla a 19.8 percent share of Japan’s battery electric vehicle market, which currently accounts for 4.1 percent of overall vehicle sales. Across the entire automotive market in Japan, Tesla now holds an estimated 0.8 percent share, according to data compiled by Roland Pircher.
Momentum has built steadily throughout 2026. Year-to-date sales are up 153 percent compared to the same period last year. Total deliveries in Japan so far this year have already reached 133 percent of the company’s full-year total from last year.
While July volume dropped 50 percent compared to June due to typical end-of-quarter delivery cycles, the past three months combined still grew 56.9 percent over the February to April period. July represents Tesla’s fourth highest sales month overall in Japan and its strongest opening month of any quarter on record.
