Tesla Produces Its 10 Millionth Vehicle at Fremont Factory

Tesla has manufactured its 10 millionth vehicle worldwide, with the milestone car—a Model Y—rolling off the production line at the company’s Fremont Factory in California this week.

The achievement comes just six years after the same factory produced Tesla’s one-millionth vehicle. Tesla announced the news on X, noting the rapid growth in production across its global operations.CEO Elon Musk responded by congratulating the workforce. “Congratulations to the Tesla Team!” he wrote. “10 million vehicles manufactured is an incredible amount of work.”

Workers at the Fremont plant marked the occasion with celebrations, while teams at other Tesla factories shared messages of pride. The company has scaled production dramatically, taking 12 years to reach its first million vehicles and then just six years to produce the next nine million.

May/October 2010: Tesla acquires most of the plant from Toyota for $42 million; officially takes possession on October 19 and begins work on October 27.
June 22, 2012: First retail deliveries of the Model S take place at the factory.
2015: Model X production begins.
July 2017: Limited Model 3 production starts (first serial production vehicles).
January 2020: Model Y production begins.
~2020: Fremont produces Tesla’s global 1 millionth vehicle (about 6 years before the 10 millionth milestone).
