SpaceX Has Now Launched More Satellites Than Every Other Country Combined

SpaceX has now launched more satellites into orbit than every other country and company in history combined, and it didn’t take long to get there.

Since the dawn of the space age in 1957, the rest of the world has put a combined 15,138 satellites into orbit over nearly seven decades. SpaceX blew past that number recently, driven almost entirely by the rapid buildout of its Starlink internet constellation and its military-focused Starshield variants.

What makes it remarkable is the timeline. Every other space program on Earth had a 61-year head start dating back to Sputnik. SpaceX lapped them in a fraction of that time.

The secret sauce is the reusable Falcon 9, which lets the company launch batches of dozens of satellites at a time at a pace no one else can match. That cadence has drawn some criticism from astronomers worried about orbit crowding, but there’s no arguing with the numbers at this point. SpaceX’s dominance in commercial spaceflight isn’t even close.

When Starship is developed and ready to launch payloads, that’s going to change the game yet again. Starship V3 features structural upgrades, a five-foot height increase, and upgraded Raptor 3 engines to handle significantly heavier lift loads. It is designed to carry a massive payload of over 100 metric tons to low Earth orbit under fully reusable operations.

But SpaceX isn’t stopping there. The next Starship V4 architecture will push the limits of rocket engineering by packing a massive 42 Raptor engines across its stack. This structural scaling aims to deliver an unprecedented 10,000 metric tons of thrust to easily carry over 200 metric tons of cargo into low Earth orbit.
