Tesla Issues Software Update to Fix Rearview Camera Delay

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y rearview camera update

Tesla’s recent over-the-air software updates have resolved a technical glitch that could prevent the rearview camera from displaying an image promptly. The issue impacts approximately 218,868 vehicles across the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X lines.

According to a notification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this week, vehicles running software version 2026.8.6 may experience a delay in the camera feed when the driver shifts into reverse. This delay can limit the driver’s visibility and increases the risk of a collision.

We’ve experienced this ourselves but our latest software update has fixed this, which is great.

The software update to fix the issue is being provided free of charge. While the digital fix is already being deployed, Tesla is expected to mail formal notification letters to owners by July 3, 2026.

The specific vehicles affected include:

  • Model 3: 2017 and 2021-2023 models
  • Model Y: 2020-2023 models
  • Model S: 2021-2023 models
  • Model X: 2021-2023 models

Drivers with questions regarding the update can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and reference internal code SB-26-00-016.
