One Company Just Ordered 370 Tesla Semi Trucks in a Single Deal
WattEV has announced a major expansion of its electric trucking operations with an order for 370 Tesla Semi trucks. This represents the largest single deployment of electric Class 8 trucks in California to date. The first 50 vehicles are expected to arrive later this year, with the remaining fleet scheduled to be on the road by the end of 2027.
The deployment focuses on connecting Northern and Central California. To support the new fleet, WattEV is opening high power charging stations at the Port of Oakland and in Fresno. These sites will use Tesla’s Megawatt Charging System, which can provide 300 miles of range in about 30 minutes.
Additional charging depots are planned for Stockton and Sacramento to build out a corridor that links with the company’s existing Southern California network in locations like Long Beach, San Bernardino, and Bakersfield.
The decision to go with the Tesla Semi followed a public request for proposals. Company officials noted that the choice was driven by the truck’s performance and the rising cost of diesel fuel. By moving to an electric model, the company aims to lower its long-term energy expenses while scaling its transport capacity.
WattEV currently operates 15 charging sites under development. The company’s long term goal is to move beyond California to establish a nationwide electric freight network.
