Companies Can Now Buy Tesla Semi Charging Hardware Directly for Their Own Depots

Tesla Semi Charging for Business Hardware

Tesla has officially launched its Semi Charging for Business program, allowing companies to purchase and install dedicated heavy-duty infrastructure directly at their depots. The company is offering two distinct solutions tailored to different operational needs: the high-powered Megacharger for rapid turnaround and the newly introduced Basecharger for longer stays.

The 125 kW Basecharger serves as a home charging equivalent for heavy-duty fleets, specifically designed for overnight use or longer dwell times. It features a fully integrated design that simplifies the setup process by eliminating the separate AC to DC cabinet usually required for such systems. For added flexibility in warehouse layouts, the unit comes equipped with a six-metre cable.

To help businesses manage installation and operational costs, Tesla has designed the Basecharger with efficiency in mind. Up to three Basechargers can be daisy-chained on a single breaker while sharing 125 kVA of power. This setup allows fleet operators to scale their charging capacity without requiring massive infrastructure overhauls at every parking stall.

For logistics routes requiring a faster power boost, the 1.2 MW Megacharger remains the flagship option. This ultra-fast system is capable of adding 60% of a Semi’s range in roughly 30 minutes, making it the primary choice for quick stops. Both the Megacharger and Basecharger utilize the MCS 3.2 charging standard and are built to take up minimal space on site.

Tesla is providing a comprehensive management portal for business owners to track performance, monitor utilization, and adjust pricing. The company also offers a full service package that includes preventative maintenance and remote support, aimed at guaranteeing a minimum of 97% uptime for the network.

“Although it looks just like a V4 post, the Basecharger doesn’t have a cabinet at all. We were able to put one of the 16 trays from the V4 cabinet inside the post. It fully leverages the design, production and supply chain of the V4 posts and V4 cabinet power electronics,” said Tesla Senior Director of Charging, Max de Zegher.

“Cost per mile (or km) is key for electrifying trucking. The Basecharger dramatically improves cost and installation flexibility for longer dwell time locations, further improving the economics for heavy duty fleets,” said de Zegher.

Business owners can choose to use their own installers under the guidance of a Tesla Design Engineer or opt for a full installation managed entirely by Tesla. Orders for the new hardware currently require a minimum purchase of two charging posts per site.
