Tesla owners in the Netherlands have reached a major milestone, surpassing 10 million kilometres driven using Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised in less than a month. Tesla Europe announced the achievement today, thanking Dutch drivers for their role in gathering data to help make regional roads safer.
The rapid accumulation of mileage highlights the high adoption rate of the technology in the Netherlands since its recent release. Many users have praised the system’s ability to handle complex European infrastructure, with one owner, kmartyn, noting that the 10 million kilometres were completed in a “short period of time” without major incidents.
This data comes at a critical time for the automaker. Reports suggest that Tesla may present these safety statistics to the RDW (the Netherlands Vehicle Authority) as part of a presentation to the European Commission’s Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles. The goal is to provide evidence that supports a wider rollout of FSD across the European Union.
The Netherlands has long been a primary hub for Tesla’s European operations, serving as the location for its regional headquarters in Amsterdam. Because of the country’s tech-forward population and well-maintained road infrastructure, it is often used as a testbed for new software features before they are deployed to the rest of the continent.
The version of FSD currently being used is Supervised, meaning a human driver must remain attentive and ready to take over at any moment. While previous iterations of Tesla’s driver-assist software were limited by strict EU regulations regarding steering angles and lane changes, the latest V14 builds have shown significant improvements in navigating Dutch roundabouts and narrow city streets.
The RDW plays a pivotal role in this process, as it is the type-approval authority for Tesla in Europe. If the RDW is satisfied with the safety data gathered from these 10 million kilometres, it could pave the way for regulatory changes that allow Tesla to activate more advanced autonomous features in neighbouring countries like Germany and Belgium.
