Tesla is expanding its lineup across Asia with the expanded launch of the Model Y L, a long-wheelbase version of its popular electric SUV. After a successful debut in China and Singapore, the new variant arrived in showrooms across Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia this week, joining Australia and New Zealand.

The Model Y L features a wheelbase stretched by 150 mm, providing significantly more interior space than the standard model. The most notable change is the shift to a six-seat configuration, featuring a 2+2+2 layout with independent captain’s chairs in the second row and a walk-through aisle for easier access to the back.

In South Korea, the Model Y L is being positioned as a family SUV alternative to larger domestic electric vehicles. According to local reports, the new variant starts at roughly 64.99 million won in South Korea, making it eligible for government electric vehicle subsidies.

The interior has also been updated to match the latest tech standards. It now includes a larger 16-inch central touchscreen and a dedicated 8-inch entertainment screen for rear-seat passengers. To handle the extra size while maintaining efficiency, Tesla has optimized the aerodynamics, achieving a reported range of up to 681 km on a single charge for the Long Range trim.

The regional rollout is part of Tesla’s strategy to capture the premium family vehicle segment in markets where larger crossovers and MPVs are in high demand. Showrooms in Japan began displaying the vehicle on April 3, with sales expected to open nationwide following a brief public viewing period.
