How to Drive 2,700 Miles Across the US with Zero Tesla FSD Interventions
Tesla has officially highlighted a historic achievement in autonomous driving, as owner David Moss completed a verified coast-to-coast journey across the U.S. using Full Self-Driving (Supervised) version 14. The 2,700-mile trip from California to South Carolina was finished in just 2 days and 20 hours with zero human interventions.
Moss was invited to Giga Texas to share a video about his experience, which Tesla has since shared on its website.
The cross-country journey was part of a larger 12,961-mile streak of FSD usage for Moss. During the drive, his Model 3 handled every road sign, turn, and Supercharger stop. “I am David Moss, and my Tesla just recently drove FSD supervised 12,961 miles, and that included a coast-to-coast journey all the way across our great nation,” Moss said of the milestone.
The technology demonstrated its reliability in challenging conditions, including 80-mile-an-hour winds. “It’s avoided things falling out of the road. I’ve had things like paint buckets, multiple roadkills that it’s avoided,” Moss noted. He used the system for all his daily driving needs between late November 2025 and mid-January 2026, including trips to hotels, conferences, and sporting events.
For Moss, the advancement of autonomy is deeply personal. “My father’s actually blind, and something like a cyber cab here would be a game changer for him. He could get around and do the errands he needs to do, and safety is everything,” he explained.
Moss recalled a specific instance where the car navigated through a gate and parked itself after 13 stops in a single day. “I had to grab a ticket and it still parked itself. You just can’t help but smile,” he said. Encouraging others to experience the technology, he added: “Give it a chance. You can go to your local service center. You need to understand how it’s safe and how it can really change your reality.”
“I am proud to announce that I have successfully completed the world’s first USA coast to coast fully autonomous drive!” said Moss on December 30, 2025. “I left the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles 2 days & 20 hours ago, and now have ended in Myrtle Beach, SC (2,732.4 miles)”.
“This was accomplished with Tesla FSD V14.2 with absolutely 0 disengagements of any kind even for all parking including at Tesla Superchargers,” said Moss, pictured with his Model 3.
