Elon Musk Teases New Tesla “Way Cooler Than A Minivan” is Coming
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has sparked a fresh wave of speculation about Tesla’s future lineup after dismissing calls for a traditional minivan. In a series of posts on X on March 24, Musk teased that the company is working on something “way cooler than a minivan” to address the needs of larger families.
The exchange began when Musk himself highlighted the family-friendly features of the Cybertruck, noting its rear bench includes three sets of ISOFIX attachments—enough to fit three child seats or three adults across. A user then followed up with a blunt request in all caps: “MAKE A MINIVAN, ELON.” Musk’s response was short but provocative: “Something way cooler than a minivan is coming.”
The timing of this tease is significant. Tesla is currently phasing out the older Model S and Model X platforms, leaving a gap in its lineup for a dedicated high-capacity family vehicle. While the Model Y remains a global best-seller, its optional seven-seat configuration is often considered tight for larger families. The larger Model Y L is only in Asian markets for now. We did see a mysterious larger Tesla at Giga Texas in a crate, that looked like a Model Y L.
Industry analysts are already weighing in on what this “cooler” vehicle could be. Possibilities include a production version of the Robovan autonomous people-mover or a larger, SUV-style vehicle built on the Cybertruck’s rugged 48-volt architecture. We honestly need a Tesla that can comfortably carry 7 passengers like a minivan. Take my money.
While Musk provided no specific timeline or technical specs, the tease suggests Tesla is moving away from traditional vehicle segments in favour of its own unique designs.
