Tesla Opens First Los Angeles Megacharger for Semi Customers

Tesla has officially expanded its heavy-duty charging footprint with the opening of the first Megacharger station in the Los Angeles area.

Located at 4265 E Guasti Road in Ontario, California, the site is now live and ready for Tesla Semi fleet customers. The selection of Ontario is no coincidence. Situated in the Inland Empire, this location puts the Megacharger in one of the busiest freight corridors in the world.

The station sits near the interchange of the I-10 and I-15 freeways, providing a critical link for electric trucks moving goods between the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and massive distribution centers for companies like Amazon, UPS, and FedEx.

What is a Tesla Megacharger?

While a standard Supercharger is designed for passenger cars like the Model 3 or Model Y, a Megacharger is a beast of a different scale. These units are engineered specifically to handle the massive battery packs of Class 8 electric trucks. Unlike V3 Superchargers that peak at 250 kW or even the new 500 kW V4 units, Megachargers utilize a new Megawatt Charging System (MCS) capable of delivering up to 1.2 MW of power.

This allows a Tesla Semi to recover roughly 60% of its range in just 30 minutes, fitting perfectly into a driver’s mandatory rest break. The stations use a specialized, liquid-cooled charging cable and a massive 8-pin connector that is significantly larger than the standard NACS plug found on Tesla cars.

A Brief History of the Megacharger

The Megacharger was first teased by Elon Musk during the Tesla Semi unveiling in 2017. For years, the only operational units were private installations at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada and a PepsiCo facility in Modesto.

The Ontario opening marks a major milestone in Tesla’s 2026 push to build out a freight corridor of charging. The company recently updated its map to show 64 new Megacharger locations across 15 states, aiming to support long-haul electric trucking from the West Coast through Texas and into the Northeast.
