Tesla Offers First Glimpse Inside Massive Semi Factory in Nevada

Journalist Ashlee Vance has shared a first look inside Tesla’s massive Semi factory in Nevada, describing the facility as “enormous and quite spectacular.”
The preview, shared following a road trip through the state, precedes a full episode detailing the factory’s operations and the progress of Tesla’s Class 8 electric truck.

The Semi project has seen significant momentum recently as Tesla shifts from pilot production to high-volume manufacturing. The dedicated factory, located near Giga Nevada, is designed to produce the electric hauler at scale to meet a growing backlog of orders from major partners.
Tesla’s Semi remains a focal point for the company’s expansion into the commercial trucking sector. Early real-world testing with companies like PepsiCo has demonstrated the vehicle’s ability to handle long-haul routes while maintaining efficiency. With a reported range of up to 800 kilometres (500 miles) on a single charge while fully loaded, the Semi is positioned to disrupt the diesel-reliant shipping industry.

Tesla’s journey to high-volume electric trucking reached a major milestone this month as the company officially launched mass production of the Semi at its newly completed Nevada facility. The project began in earnest in January 2023 with a $3.6 billion expansion announcement, followed by the completion of the massive steel structure in late 2024.
By early 2025, the factory was fully enclosed and outfitted with Giga-scale stamping and assembly equipment, paving the way for the March 2026 rollout of the first production-spec trucks to major logistics partners like Hight Logistics and DHL.
The upcoming factory tour is expected to reveal more about the specialized assembly lines and battery integration that allow the Semi to maintain its performance specifications. As Tesla ramps up production, the focus remains on reducing the total cost of ownership for fleet operators compared to traditional semi-trucks.
