Tesla Model Y Canada Update: 16-Inch Screen & Black Headliner Arrive

Tesla has officially refreshed its Canadian website for the Model Y, confirming that a pair of highly requested interior upgrades are finally crossing the border.

If you place a new order today, you will notice the darker black headliner is now standard equipment on both the Premium and Performance trims. Also, the larger 16-inch QHD centre touchscreen is now included across the entire lineup, which includes the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive model.

This brings Canadian vehicles up to speed with recent hardware changes that have already rolled out in the United States and China. In January, Tesla debuted the features in China followed by the U.S., then other international markets.

The switch to a black roof liner is a welcome update for buyers who felt the old light grey fabric clashed with the darker seats and door panels. It is a minor cosmetic tweak, but a black ceiling makes the cabin feel significantly more cohesive and refined. If you are ordering the base RWD model, you will still get the traditional grey headliner for the time being.

On the tech side, stepping up from the old 15.4-inch unit to the new 16-inch QHD display provides a sharper image and slightly more screen real estate for navigation and media. Who doesn’t want a bigger screen for watching Netflix and YouTube as well?

One major detail to keep in mind is build timing. If you have an existing reservation and are waiting on a delivery from an incoming batch of Giga Berlin shipments, your vehicle might not feature these new parts. It completely depends on whether your specific car was manufactured before or after the factory changeover. However, if you are ordering a brand new Model Y today, your vehicle will automatically include the updated hardware.
