Tesla Model Y Performance Delays Hit Canada: Vancouver and Toronto Dates Slip

Tesla customers across Canada are reporting a fresh wave of delivery delays this week, with many scheduled dates for the Model Y Performance sliding from mid-March into early April. The logistics shift has left buyers in major hubs like Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto tracking their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) with growing concern.

The trend emerged on the r/teslacanada subreddit, where several Vancouver-based order holders noticed their estimated delivery dates (EDD) pushed from March 23 to a new window of March 31 to April 5. The delay is widespread; a buyer in Calgary reported a shift to late March, while users in Toronto and Etobicoke saw dates move as far back as April 12.

The Interior Hardware Lottery

The frustration over timing is being amplified by what many are calling the “interior lottery.” Canadian buyers are closely watching to see if their new Model Y Performance will arrive with the updated black headliner or the older Polar Grey version.

For some, the older grey trim is a dealbreaker. “Rejecting, since will come with grey headliner,” wrote user Feisty-Basis7903. “Looks disgusting when you compare it to the black. Not worth it.” Another user, JohnsonJJT, echoed the sentiment, stating they are about to reject their Vancouver delivery because the grey interior was confirmed.

However, rejecting a delivery comes with risks. Other community members warned that skipping a current VIN might lead to losing out on certain features, like standard Autopilot, depending on when the original deposit was placed.

Regional Batching and VIN Tracking

Current data suggests that Tesla is producing vehicles in batches assigned to specific regions. Vancouver and West Coast orders appear to be receiving earlier VINs—specifically those in the 819 or 820 range—which are largely confirmed to have the grey headliner.

In contrast, Ontario seems to be seeing newer stock. One Toronto buyer with a VIN starting with 838 confirmed their build lacks the Polar Grey designation on the official parts site, suggesting the newer black trim is finally landing in Eastern Canada.

How to Verify Your Build

If you have a VIN assigned, you can verify your car’s configuration before it arrives:

  1. Visit parts.tesla.com and sign in with your VIN.
  2. Navigate to “1505 – Interior Mirror and Sun Visors.”
  3. Look for the “SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY” listing.
  4. If the description includes “POLAR GREY,” your vehicle has the older light-coloured interior.

As the first quarter of 2026 closes, Canadian Tesla enthusiasts remain on high alert, balancing the desire for the latest hardware against a shifting delivery schedule that has left some orders pushed as far back as late June.
