Starlink’s New Plan Is So Popular It’s Causing a Shortage

Starlink’s newly revamped Residential Max plan appears to be off to a strong start — perhaps a little too strong.
SpaceX has confirmed that high demand for its new top-tier residential internet plan is causing delays in the delivery of the complimentary Router Mini that’s included for free with Residential Max. In a notice posted to Starlink’s official Support website, the company says some eligible customers may experience a short delay before they’re able to claim or receive the smaller router, adding that it’s working to make Router Minis available as quickly as possible.
Residential Max was introduced last week as part of a broader shakeup of Starlink’s residential lineup in the U.S., before rolling out to Canada days later. The plan replaces the previous high-end Residential tier and includes unlimited data, making it the most premium home offering Starlink currently sells. As an added perk, the plan bundles the Router Mini at no extra cost — likely to help users extend coverage throughout larger homes. You can also qualify for a free Starlink Mini Kit to use on the go.
That free hardware incentive may be proving more popular than expected, however.
The Router Mini is a compact companion device designed to complement Starlink’s main router, helping improve Wi-Fi coverage without requiring users to buy additional networking gear. While Starlink hasn’t shared numbers, the wording of its notice suggests demand has outpaced initial supply, at least temporarily.
The timing isn’t surprising. Starlink has been aggressively tweaking its plans as its subscriber base continues to surge. Alongside the Residential Max launch, the company recently brought back cheaper capped Residential tiers, doubled the data allowance on its entry-level Roam plan from 50GB to 100GB at no extra cost, and expanded service to dozens of new markets. Starlink ended 2025 with more than 9.2 million users globally, after doubling its subscriber count in a single year.
For now, Starlink says customers simply need to be patient. The company hasn’t indicated how long delays might last or whether future Residential Max signups could be affected. In its 2025 progress report, Starlink said it plans to double production at the company’s dish factory in Bastrop, Texas, this year. If you’re eligible and waiting on a Router Mini, it may just take a bit longer to arrive.
