Tesla Plans World’s Biggest Supercharger in California

Tesla is preparing a massive expansion of one of its most important Supercharger sites in California — one that could soon become the largest Supercharger station in the world.

According to longtime Tesla enthusiast and Supercharger watcher @MarcoRPi1, Tesla has been granted a conditional use permit to dramatically expand its existing Supercharger site in Firebaugh, California. The plan calls for the addition of 232 new charging stalls for cars and 16 Semi chargers, bringing the total count at the location to a staggering 304 stalls once complete.

The Firebaugh site currently features 56 V3 Supercharger stalls, which first opened back in November 2020. With the approved expansion, the site would host a total of 288 charging stalls for passenger vehicles, alongside 16 dedicated Tesla Semi chargers. An amenity area is also expected to be part of the expanded site, further reinforcing Firebaugh’s role as a critical charging hub along California’s busy Interstate 5 corridor.

If built as planned, the upgraded Firebaugh Supercharger would eclipse Tesla’s current largest Supercharger in the world — a 164-stall site in California that opened just a few months ago — by roughly 85%. It would also dwarf Tesla’s upcoming largest Canadian Supercharger, which is set to open later this month.

While Tesla hasn’t confirmed technical details yet, the expansion will likely include next-generation V4 Supercharger stalls. Tesla has made V4 hardware standard for new installations as it continues to scale its network to support higher charging speeds, longer cables, and a growing mix of vehicle types.

The timing isn’t surprising. Tesla’s Supercharger network had its biggest year ever in 2025, delivering a record 6.7 TWh of energy to EVs worldwide. Demand has only accelerated as Tesla continues opening its charging network to other automakers, including BMW, which became the latest to gain Supercharger access last month.

Firebaugh’s central location makes it a strategic choice for such a massive buildout, especially as long-distance EV travel increases and Tesla prepares for higher utilization from both passenger vehicles and its upcoming Semi fleet. Once completed, this site won’t just be Tesla’s biggest — it could become one of the most important EV charging hubs on the planet.
