Starlink’s New Mini X Hardware Bundle Isn’t What You Think

SpaceX has quietly introduced a new Starlink hardware bundle called the Mini X, but despite the name, it’s not a next-generation satellite dish. Instead, the company has created a new package that combines its existing Starlink Mini terminal with an additional Router Mini, targeting users who want basic connectivity with better Wi-Fi coverage in a compact setup.
For now, the Starlink Mini X Kit is only available in Argentina, where it’s being sold for 189,000 pesos, or about $129 USD. According to SpaceX, “Starlink Mini X is a compact, portable kit, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet on the go or in your home.” The company noted that, in addition to the dish itself, “the Starlink Mini X Kit comes with a kickstand, pipe adapter and flat mount, and a Router Mini in the box.”
The bundle is notable because the Starlink Mini already has a built-in Wi-Fi router capable of covering up to roughly 1,200 square feet. However, that internal router is limited to Wi-Fi 5 and has a relatively modest range. By adding the Router Mini, which supports Wi-Fi 6 and can operate as a mesh node, SpaceX is addressing one of the most common complaints about the Mini: insufficient Wi-Fi reach when installed in small homes, RVs, or temporary setups.
Unlike the original U.S. launch of Starlink Mini in 2024, which was tied exclusively to the more expensive Roam plan, the Mini X can be used with both Roam and Residential service tiers in Argentina. That opens the door to using the portable dish as a fixed home internet solution, albeit with slightly slower speeds than the full-size Starlink dish.
The aggressive pricing stands in stark contrast to North America, where the standalone Starlink Mini still costs $299 in the U.S. and $399 in Canada, even after a price cut last fall. In Argentina, the Mini X is also cheaper than the standard Starlink dish, though SpaceX is offsetting that discount with steep one-time high-demand surcharges in congested regions like Buenos Aires.
With Starlink now boasting more than 9 million active users globally and expanding rapidly into new markets, the Mini X bundle feels like another attempt to lower the barrier to entry. Whether SpaceX brings this sharply discounted bundle to the U.S. or Canada remains to be seen, but if it does, it could significantly change how Starlink positions the Mini beyond just road trips and remote travel.
