Tesla Fans are Turning Car Seats into Office Chairs

Tesla fans have found a new way to bring the brand into their daily lives — and this time, it’s not parked in the driveway. A growing DIY trend is turning genuine Tesla car seats into fully powered office chairs, complete with heat, cooling, recline, tilt, and lumbar support, all plugged straight into a wall outlet.

The latest example comes from Tesla staffer Ryan Torres (@RyanTorresTesla), who showed off a fully assembled Model 3 Performance office chair with full power functionality, crediting a new kit from Springdale Robotics for making it possible. The so-called “SuperSeat” kit reverse-engineers Tesla’s seat motors and electronics, allowing salvaged OEM seats to function exactly as they would inside the car. According to Torres, the result feels no different than sitting in a Model 3 — just without the steering wheel.

The $399 kit was developed by Springdale Robotics, a Colorado-based company, with additional help from longtime Tesla modder Tim Hoyer (@TeslaTim2). “The SuperSeat Kit provides the electronics needed to bring your Tesla office chair to life,” reads the product listing on Springdale Robotics’ website. “Every SuperSeat Kit contains the hardware to drive all possible features of Model 3 and Model Y front seats, including seat heating, recline, tilt, seat ventilation, and lumbar adjustment.”

The system includes a custom PCB and power adapter that lets the seat plug directly into a standard wall outlet, enabling full control over its various features and adjustments. Depending on the seat, installation is designed to be a straightforward DIY project.

This trend also highlights a clever reuse of potentially salvaged car seats, giving them a second life outside of wrecked or retired vehicles. For die-hard Tesla fans, it’s a way to bring a literal piece of the brand into their homes and offices — not just their garages. Hoyer is even selling OEM Tesla seats ready to be converted, while Springdale Robotics is shipping the electrification kits directly to buyers.

That said, the setup isn’t perfect. Tesla seats, like most car seats, don’t have armrests — something many office chair users consider essential. For some, that could be a dealbreaker, especially for long workdays at a desk. Still, fans who’ve made the switch swear by the comfort, with EV and tech reviewer @spotted_model calling it “the best office chair you will ever own,” despite the combined cost of the seat and kit landing well north of a typical premium office chair (unless it’s a Herman Miller).

As quirky as it sounds, the Tesla seat office chair trend perfectly captures the brand’s enthusiast culture: practical, experimental, and just a little bit over the top.
