Tesla Celebrates 4 Million Cars Made at Giga Shanghai

Tesla’s manufacturing footprint hit yet another massive milestone over the weekend, as Gigafactory Shanghai rolled its 4 millionth vehicle off the production line. Tesla Asia celebrated the achievement on X, thanking its customers and supporters. The company also noted that the very first Tesla built at the factory was delivered just under six years ago, in December 2019.

Elon Musk chimed in shortly after, replying to the post with a simple but enthusiastic “Congratulations!” to the Giga Shanghai team.

Gigafactory Shanghai has been Tesla’s fastest-scaling factory to date. The facility reached its one million–vehicle milestone in August 2022, went on to hit 2 million in September 2023, and crossed 3 million just last October. Now, just over a year later, it has officially produced another million vehicles — highlighting just how aggressively the plant has ramped production since it came online.

Battery output is scaling just as quickly. Last month, Giga Shanghai also produced its 5 millionth battery pack, marking yet another major achievement for Tesla’s largest global manufacturing hub.

Tesla’s other factories are continuing to notch their own milestones as well. In October, Gigafactory Texas celebrated building its 500,000th vehicle, demonstrating steady progress as the plant works toward full-volume output for the Model Y.

Shanghai remains Tesla’s most productive facility, with the plant playing a crucial role in the company’s global supply chain. The factory not only supplies vehicles across China but also exports large volumes to Europe and other regions, making it central to Tesla’s worldwide delivery strategy.

With Giga Shanghai hitting 4 million vehicles in under six years, Tesla’s manufacturing scale-up shows no sign of slowing down.
