New Tesla App Update Lets You Track Your Car Like AirTags

Tesla started rolling out version 4.51.5 of its iOS app over the weekend, and the update quietly introduces a slick new quality-of-life feature that feels a lot like Apple’s Precision Finding in the Find My app. Once updated, the “Location” button on the Tesla app’s homepage now includes a new real-time directional view that points you toward your parked vehicle. An arrow shows which direction to walk, and the interface even displays the precise distance to your car as you move.
It’s a small but genuinely useful addition, especially in crowded parking lots or unfamiliar areas where spotting your vehicle isn’t always straightforward. Tesla has increasingly leaned into smartphone-driven utility, and this is one of the more polished implementations we’ve seen to date.
The update also appears to prep the app for Tesla’s massive 2025 Holiday Update, unveiled last week and expected to begin rolling out to vehicles in the coming days. That release includes new festive UI elements, the ability to add, edit, and manage navigation stops by simply talking to Grok, a new Toybox feature that turns your Tesla into a photobooth with its cabin camera, an enhanced media experience, support for custom wraps for the vehicle icon, and more. The latest Tesla app update lays some of the groundwork for those features, including enhanced dashcam handling.
Speaking of dashcam tools, users have also noticed a new Dashcam Viewer button when scrolling down on the Tesla app’s homepage. The more accessible location makes it easier for users to find and review live dashcam footage, as well as view and manage saved video clips. Once the new Holiday Update rolls out, these clips will also feature overlays showing speed, steering angle, accelerator and brake pressure, and whether Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD) was engaged.
This release follows Tesla’s previous major app update a couple of weeks ago, which brought live weather data to the home screen for Powerwall owners. Together, these updates signal Tesla’s steady push toward turning its mobile app into a more comprehensive command center for both drivers and energy customers.
