Tesla Launches Free FSD 14 Trial for HW4 Owners

Tesla is kicking off a major new Full Self-Driving (Supervised) push across North America, launching a free 30-day trial of FSD v14 for an estimated 1.5 million owners of Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles who haven’t purchased the package. Eligible Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck owners in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico will begin receiving emails and in-app notifications as the rollout begins.

“New and existing Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck owners will have the opportunity to experience the latest Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14 features, including Speed Profiles and Arrival Options, with a complimentary trial,” Tesla says on the Support page for the promotion.

The move is Tesla’s latest attempt to get more owners hands-on with its most advanced driver-assistance system yet. The company has a history of offering wide-reaching FSD trials after major releases, and this one arrives just as FSD 14.2 started rolling out last week. Early testers have been largely positive about the latest update, noting it significantly improves the hesitation and sudden braking issues that had surfaced in earlier 14.x builds — giving Tesla enough confidence to bring the trial to its entire HW4 fleet at once.

To participate, eligible owners simply need FSD (Supervised) version 14.2 or newer installed. Once the update has been installed, the trial activates automatically, and drivers can enable it through Controls > Autopilot. As always, Tesla emphasizes that FSD (Supervised) requires full driver attention at all times and does not make vehicles autonomous. The free trial also stacks with FSD rewards from Tesla’s referral program.

The company has recently stepped up efforts to boost FSD adoption, advertising the feature online and in public spaces like airports. FSD (Supervised) is now live in seven countries worldwide, including South Korea, which joined the list over the weekend. Tesla is also pushing hard for regulatory approval in Europe, though its path remains uncertain as EU regulators continue reviewing the system. Tesla still expects its first EU approval sometime in early 2026.

Launching a free trial across North America now serves not only to drive adoption but also to sharply increase the system’s fleet mileage — data Tesla says is critical to accelerating improvements. With so many HW4 vehicles eligible, cumulative FSD miles are poised to surge in the weeks ahead.
