Elon Musk Says Tesla FSD 14.3 Is the ‘Last Big Piece’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is once again raising expectations for the company’s next major Full Self-Driving (Supervised) release, saying FSD 14.3 represents the “last big piece” of Tesla’s autonomy puzzle. Musk made the remark on X in response to early feedback on FSD 14.2.
The comments come just hours after Tesla began rolling out FSD 14.2 to early testers on Friday, with a broader release now underway. While 14.2 introduced only one new item to the official changelog — plus a new in-car data page showing how many FSD miles a driver has logged — early impressions suggest the update is far more substantial than the release notes indicate.
One early tester described 14.2 as “the refinement we have been waiting for,” noting very smooth driving behavior across highways, construction zones, parking lots, and even challenging environments. Sudden braking and hesitation issues that had plagued every point release since FSD 14’s debut reportedly seem to be resolved. Others have shown the update performing surprisingly well, even on dirt roads. Tesla AI Senior Staff Engineer Yun-Ta Tsai commented that 14.2 “is not a small update,” with Musk also chiming in: “Indeed. Nor is 14.3.”
When an early tester mentioned an instance where FSD 14.2 struggled to exit a parking lot, Musk responded: “14.3 is where the last big piece of the puzzle finally lands.”
Tesla has been rapidly iterating on its end-to-end neural network–based FSD 14 stack, and Musk previously said versions 14.2 and 14.3 would begin to feel “like it is sentient” as the system becomes more fluid and contextual. Version 14.3 is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
All of this comes as Tesla works toward unlocking Unsupervised FSD — meaning the system could operate without human oversight. During the company’s 2025 shareholder meeting earlier this month, Musk said Tesla was only “a few months away” from that milestone.
For now, it’s still unclear what the big picture will look like once Tesla fits this last puzzle piece into place. But with FSD 14.3 just weeks out, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
