Tesla Just Added Live Weather to Its App — Here’s What’s New

Tesla has started rolling out a new mobile app update that brings live, site-specific weather animations directly to the home screen. The feature appears in Tesla app version 4.51.0 on iOS, which began rolling out this week. According to the release notes on the App Store, “Powerwall owners can now see live weather on the home screen of the App.”
In a post on X, Tesla Energy highlighted the update, noting that the Tesla App home screen now features “live weather, with site-specific time-of-day, clouds, rain, snow, and more.” The company added that the feature is available for Powerwall, Solar, Wall Connector, and Powershare customers. Early users report that the UI now dynamically reflects local conditions, offering subtle live animations that shift as the weather does.
This is a meaningful upgrade for Powerwall owners, who rely on real-time context around energy storage and consumption. Tesla’s Powerwall — of which more than one million have now been installed globally — stores excess energy from solar or pulls grid electricity during cheaper off-peak hours. Homeowners can use that stored energy during outages, overnight, or when electricity rates spike. It’s capable of keeping essentials like lighting, Wi-Fi, and refrigeration running, and can even support larger appliances such as HVAC systems without interruption.
The update also comes just a couple of months after Tesla introduced a new Solar + Powerwall lease option in the U.S., lowering the barrier to entry for homeowners looking to adopt the company’s clean-energy ecosystem.
Tesla has been steadily expanding the utility of its mobile app in recent months. Recent updates have added features like a recommended maintenance tracker for its EVs, a new Tire Center interface, and even screen sharing support. With live weather now integrated into the home energy dashboard, the Tesla app continues to evolve into a more comprehensive control hub for both vehicle and home-energy products.
