Tesla Teases Possible Colombia Launch in New Video

Tesla appears to be gearing up for a launch in Colombia. The company’s official North America account on X (@tesla_na) this week posted a short teaser video featuring a map of Colombia in the colors of the national flag, which then transitions into a red Tesla logo.

While the post doesn’t include a caption or further details, the teaser strongly suggests that Tesla plans to enter the Colombian market soon. The move would make Colombia Tesla’s second market in South America, following its launch in Chile last year. Tesla opened online orders for the Model 3 and Model Y in Chile in early 2024, and just last month, the country became home to Tesla’s first physical showroom on the continent.

Colombia’s automotive market remains relatively modest, with annual passenger car sales hovering around 200,000 units, down from highs of roughly 300,000 in the 2010s. Still, the market for electric vehicles is starting to gain traction, driven in part by the growing presence of Chinese EV brands like BYD and Zeekr. Tesla’s arrival would add serious momentum to that shift, especially if it brings its Supercharger network along with it.

Tesla typically deploys DC fast chargers and destination charging infrastructure whenever it launches in a new country, as it did in Chile last year and India when it launched there earlier this year. That could prove pivotal in Colombia, where limited public charging options remain a barrier to EV adoption. With relatively low electricity prices and growing consumer interest in clean energy, Tesla’s expansion could help accelerate the country’s transition toward electrification — even if its cars remain on the premium end of the market.

So far, there’s no word on when Tesla might officially launch in Colombia, or whether it plans to open local stores or service centers. But based on this teaser, the company’s entry into the market could be just around the corner.
