Tesla to Launch FSD Subscription Gifting in Time for the Holidays

Tesla is adding a new way for fans to share its most advanced driver-assistance system. According to Tesla Vice President Raj Jegannathan, the company will soon allow owners in North America to gift Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscriptions to other Tesla drivers — just in time for the holidays.

Jegannathan confirmed the feature on X in response to a suggestion from longtime Tesla watcher and enthusiast Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt), who proposed letting owners purchase 1-, 3-, or 6-month FSD (Supervised) subscriptions as gifts. “Will have it ready before holidays!” Jegannathan replied, indicating that the option could roll out sometime next month, if not sooner.

Tesla last month started rolling out FSD 14, the most advanced version of its driver-assistance system yet. The new initiative will make it easier for Tesla owners to share FSD (Supervised) with friends and family during the holiday season, turning what’s usually a $99 USD per month upgrade into a giftable experience. It also replaces less official workarounds like digital gift cards that owners have used in the past to help others try the feature.

Tesla’s move could help drive adoption of its driver-assistance software among more hesitant users. FSD (Supervised) enables Tesla vehicles to navigate city streets, manage intersections, and make lane changes with minimal driver input, though drivers must remain attentive at all times. The company often runs limited-time promotions offering free trials of FSD, but this is the first time owners themselves will be able to sponsor access for others directly.

The timing also coincides with Tesla’s broader global rollout of FSD (Supervised). Last month, Tesla began offering monthly FSD subscriptions in Australia and New Zealand after expanding public availability of the system there in September. It remains to be seen if gifting subscriptions will become an option outside North America, though.

With the gifting feature arriving ahead of the 2025 holiday season, Tesla owners will soon be able to quite literally share the gift of self-driving with friends and family.
