Tesla Ramps Up Hiring for Cybercab Production at Giga Texas

Tesla appears to be ramping up preparations for production of its upcoming Cybercab at Gigafactory Texas, with a wave of new job postings pointing to growing activity around the company’s long-awaited autonomous ride-hailing vehicle.
According to a new report from The Austin American-Statesman, Tesla has posted at least 30 new positions tied to the Cybercab, most of which are focused on manufacturing. These openings, all based at the company’s Gigafactory just outside Austin, include roles for technicians involved in drive unit, battery pack, general assembly, and vehicle production line operations. Until recently, Tesla reportedly had only about three Cybercab-related openings.
The Cybercab is Tesla’s upcoming two-seat, all-electric autonomous vehicle designed for its future Robotaxi network. Owners will eventually be able to add their own Cybercabs (and other Tesla vehicles) to the fleet, helping scale the ride-hailing service quickly. The futuristic vehicle is expected to feature scissor-style doors, a minimalist interior optimized for shared use, and no steering wheel or pedals.
The new postings come roughly a week after CEO Elon Musk told investors during the company’s Q3 earnings call that it expects to begin “volume production” of the two-seater autonomous robotaxi in Q2 2026. Tesla has said that the next-generation vehicle will be built using its “Unboxed” manufacturing system, a process that assembles large sections of the vehicle in parallel before combining them for final assembly.
Musk has previously claimed that the Cybercab could become Tesla’s highest-volume vehicle ever, with production potentially reaching two million units per year. The line, he said, “doesn’t look like a normal car manufacturing line” and could produce a new vehicle every five seconds.
This development follows sightings of Cybercab prototypes earlier this month at both Tesla’s Fremont test track and Giga Texas crash test facility, and just this week, the first Cybercab was spotted testing on public roads in Los Altos, California.
Tesla recently also secured a patent for its unique “Unboxed” production process. Over the past few months, drone footage from Giga Texas has even captured what appears to be early production equipment for the Cybercab arriving at the facility, adding further credence to Tesla’s production timeline.
