SpaceX Hits Record 139 Launches in 2025 with SpainSat NG II Mission

SpaceX has set a new annual launch record with the successful deployment of the SpainSat NG II satellite on Wednesday evening, marking its 139th mission of 2025 — the most launches the company has ever completed in a single year.

A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET, carrying the second and final satellite for the SpainSat Next Generation (NG) constellation. The pair of SpainSat NG satellites will enable military-grade communications for the Spanish Armed Forces.

Following liftoff, the Falcon 9’s upper stage successfully deployed the satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit about 36 minutes later. The mission marked the 22nd and final flight for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, which SpaceX confirmed in its mission description was flown in expendable mode “due to the additional performance required to deliver this payload to orbit.”

The booster supporting the launch previously flew CRS-26, OneWeb Launch 16, Intelsat IS-40e, SES O3b mPOWER-C, Ovzon-3, Eutelsat 26D, Turksat 6A, Maxar 2, SXM-9, and 12 Starlink missions, according to SpaceX.

This latest mission follows a string of major achievements for SpaceX in recent weeks. The company recently launched its 10,000th Starlink satellite to date, hitting another major milestone in its satellite broadband expansion. SpaceX also completed its 11th Starship flight test last week, achieving all objectives and officially retiring its v2 rocket design.

Earlier this month, SpaceX received approval from the U.S. Air Force to double its annual launch capacity from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base, paving the way for an even more aggressive cadence heading into 2026.

So far this year, SpaceX has launched 134 Falcon 9 missions and five suborbital Starship test flights, and continues to accelerate its operational tempo. For comparison, the company completed 132 Falcon 9 launches, two Falcon Heavy missions, and four Starship flights during all of 2024.

With this week’s successful SpainSat NG II deployment, SpaceX not only extends its lead as the world’s most prolific launch provider but also cements 2025 as its most productive year yet.
