Tesla Roadster Unveil Still on Track for 2025, Says Design Chief

Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen has confirmed that the long-awaited next-generation Tesla Roadster is still on track to be unveiled this year. Speaking on episode 533 of the Ride The Lightning podcast, von Holzhausen said, “The Roadster will be [an] amazing car that looks at the limits of physics. We’ve really gotten to a point where we are going to be achieving that standard that we set out.”
The upcoming all-electric supercar has been one of Tesla’s most anticipated vehicles since its original reveal back in 2017. CEO Elon Musk has previously teased a host of ambitious performance targets for the new Roadster, including a mind-bending 0–60 mph acceleration time of under one second — a figure that, if achieved, would make it the quickest production vehicle ever built.
It remains to be seen how many of these lofty promises Tesla will actually be able to deliver on, though von Holzhausen’s comments suggest that development is progressing well and nearing completion.
Von Holzhausen also confirmed that Tesla plans to showcase and demonstrate the new Roadster before the end of 2025. “I’m excited to showcase the Roadster for a lot of different reasons. The wait will be worth it,” he said, adding that the vehicle will feature “its own complete unique set of paint options.”
During the same interview, von Holzhausen also touched on the recently announced Model Y Standard, Tesla’s most affordable SUV yet, saying that he believes it “feels more premium than the price point.” The Model Y Standard starts at $39,990 in the U.S. and was recently also launched in European markets, with deliveries in Europe beginning next month.
With the new Roadster’s unveil and demo now confirmed for later this year, Tesla fans may finally get a first real look at what could become the company’s most ambitious production car to date.
