Tesla Rolls Out Grok AI in Canada with 2025.38 Software Update

Tesla has quietly rolled out its in-car conversational AI, Grok, to Canadian owners as part of the latest 2025.38 software update. The feature, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, marks the first time Canadian drivers can directly interact with Grok inside their vehicles.
Software version 2025.38 began rolling out this week and follows months of waiting since Grok debuted for U.S. Tesla owners with version 2025.26 back in July. The expansion comes with the same software update that also adds 3D buildings and cityscapes to Tesla’s navigation maps.
Interestingly, even Grok seems unaware of its Canadian release — when asked by users in Canada, it reportedly replies that the rollout remains delayed due to regulatory hurdles. That comment likely refers to Canada’s proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), part of Bill C-27, which prompted xAI to adopt what it called an “anticipatory” compliance approach before launching in Canada.
To use Grok, Tesla owners will need Premium Connectivity or an active Wi-Fi connection, along with an AMD Ryzen processor-equipped vehicle (either HW3 or HW4). Older models running Intel Atom chips aren’t yet supported, though Tesla notes the feature “may become available” on more vehicles through future over-the-air updates.
Once activated, drivers can “talk to Grok” by selecting it through the App Launcher or long-pressing the voice button on the steering wheel. Grok offers multiple personality modes — such as Storyteller and Unhinged — and currently focuses on natural conversation, humour, and general-knowledge assistance rather than controlling car features. However, future updates are expected to deepen its integration with Tesla’s ecosystem, eventually handling navigation, settings, and entertainment tasks more fluidly than current voice commands.
All conversations are processed anonymously and not tied to a specific driver or vehicle, according to Tesla. Musk has also confirmed that the company is working on introducing a dedicated wake word for Grok in the near future, making interactions even more seamless.
