WestJet has announced that it will begin rolling out free in-flight Wi-Fi powered by SpaceX’s Starlink starting in late 2025. The Canadian airline is working with Telus to provide Starlink connectivity across its Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 MAX fleet by the end of the year, with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner installations following in 2026.

“Through our strategic partnership with TELUS, we are setting a new standard in the Canadian airline industry by offering Starlink’s revolutionary in-flight connectivity, and thanks to TELUS, we are able to bring this in-flight experience to WestJet Rewards guests for free,” said John Weatherill, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet Group.

The airline confirmed that the Wi-Fi rollout is part of its ongoing cabin reconfiguration program, which will refresh interiors and seating options across the fleet. Starlink’s low-latency satellite service promises ground-like streaming speeds in the air, enabling passengers to reliably stream video, shop online, and work from the skies. Access will be complimentary for WestJet Rewards members.

“The best-in-class, high-speed, low-latency internet technology provides the same reliable streaming-level speeds in the air that guests are used to enjoying on the ground,” said WestJet.

This update comes a little over a year after WestJet first revealed its partnership with Telus to bring Starlink internet to its aircraft. It also follows fellow Canadian carrier Air Canada’s announcement last week that it will equip its regional fleet with Starlink Wi-Fi, starting with the Dash 8-400 turboprop, as part of a $10 million CAD cabin modernization project.

SpaceX’s Starlink is rapidly becoming the new standard for aerial connectivity, with airlines around the world adopting the satellite-based service to replace older, slower in-flight Wi-Fi systems. For passengers, this means a more consistent and enjoyable experience no matter where they fly.

By the end of 2025, WestJet customers can expect Starlink-powered Wi-Fi across most of the airline’s Boeing narrowbody fleet, with Dreamliners to follow next year.
