Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) has already impressed reviewers in Australia and New Zealand, but it has now also achieved a world first.
Australian Tesla owner Harald Murphy (@harald_murphy) has become the first person to circumnavigate an entire continent using FSD (Supervised). Murphy drove a refreshed Tesla Model Y around Australia, covering 13,577 km (8,436 miles) over 11 days — or 249 hours in total.
“In a world first, an entire continent has been encircled using Full Self Driving (Supervised),” Murphy wrote on X after completing the journey. Across his trip, Murphy saw an average energy efficiency of 169 Wh/km from his new Model Y. Here’s what his route around Australia looked like:
Perth > Karratha > Fitzroy Crossing > Katherine > Threeways > Hughenden > Boroen > Newcastle > Melbourne > Ceduna > Coolgardie > Perth
Tesla only began its public rollout of FSD (Supervised) in Australia and New Zealand earlier this week, following a limited launch late last month that drew rave reviews from local media and tech enthusiasts. Early impressions highlighted just how smoothly Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance system handled the unique driving conditions of Australia and New Zealand.
The feat also comes shortly after Tesla launched its updated Model Y Performance in the region, giving buyers access to the company’s latest hardware and software stack. Murphy’s use of the new Model Y highlights Tesla’s push to showcase how FSD (Supervised) is designed to be safer and more capable with every iteration.
Covering more than 13,500 km in less than two weeks, Murphy’s drive underscores both the reliability of Tesla’s EV platform and the robustness of its self-driving software. While the system still requires driver supervision at all times, this achievement is another sign of how far Tesla has come with its AI-powered autonomy.
With FSD (Supervised) now reaching more drivers across Australia and New Zealand, and the company’s refreshed vehicles hitting the market, it’s clear Tesla is betting big on the region as a proving ground for its self-driving technology.
