Tesla Offering Robotaxi Rides for Vehicle Pick-Ups at Giga Texas

Tesla is now inviting select customers to take their first autonomous ride in a Tesla Robotaxi as part of the vehicle delivery process at Giga Texas.

According to screenshots shared by X user and father of a soon-to-be Model Y owner @4sanjaymathew, Tesla is offering buyers the chance to ride in one of its Robotaxis to the Austin factory to pick up their new car. Customers and their families are being told they’ll get an exclusive first-hand look at Tesla’s latest technology, followed by the delivery of their new vehicle.

“Be among the first to take an autonomous ride in Robotaxi at the end of September,” reads the invite sent to one customer. “You and your family will have the exclusive opportunity to experience our latest technology followed by your Model Y pick-up.” Rides appear to be limited, and Tesla is asking customers to confirm their attendance.

This comes shortly after Tesla was confirmed to be building a new public delivery center at Giga Texas. While the automaker has been carrying out a small number of direct customer deliveries at the Austin factory for several months, the new delivery hub will allow more buyers to pick up their vehicles directly from the site.

The initiative also ties into Tesla’s broader Robotaxi rollout. Tesla launched its first Robotaxi pilot program in Austin back in June. In the weeks since, the company has expanded its Robotaxi coverage area in Austin, brought the service to the Bay Area, and publicly rolled out the Robotaxi app for iOS.

Earlier this week, Tesla secured approval to begin testing robotaxis in Nevada. Reports also indicate the company is in talks to bring Robotaxi operations to major airports in the Bay Area.

By offering Robotaxi rides as part of the customer delivery process, Tesla is blending its push for autonomy with a unique ownership experience, while giving new buyers an early taste of its upcoming ride-hailing service.
