Tesla Energy has announced that more than 1 million Powerwalls have now been installed worldwide, marking a major milestone for the company’s home battery business.

First launched back in May 2015, the Tesla Powerwall has grown into one of the world’s most widely adopted home energy storage systems. Mass production began at Giga Nevada in 2017, and the next-generation Powerwall 3 was introduced in September 2023. The 1 millionth unit was produced on June 2 of this year and is now being installed at a customer’s home.

According to Tesla, the global Powerwall fleet spans 30 countries and now provides 6.7 GW of battery capacity — enough to power the entire country of Singapore. Collectively, Tesla Powerwalls have delivered 17.3 TWh of clean energy from solar while helping homeowners avoid over 21 million power outages.

Tesla is celebrating this milestone with a new highlight in the Tesla app, counting down to the 1 millionth Powerwall install and giving Powerwall owners a look at how their systems have contributed to the global fleet.

“As @teslaenergy hits 1 Million Powerwalls installed, Powerwall owners can see how their own homes contributed to accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, and our vision of sustainable abundance,” Tesla app designer Alex Guichet (@AlexGuichet) noted on X. The phrase “sustainable abundance” refers to the overarching goal of Tesla’s recently unveiled Master Plan Part 4.

Guichet also shared that Tesla has paid out over $60 million in Virtual Power Plant (VPP) earnings to date, with his own home contributing over 27.2 MWh of energy back to the grid. Nearly $10 million of those VPP payouts went to U.S. Powerwall owners last year alone.

Demand for Tesla’s home battery system is surging. In Australia, Tesla sold 4,000 Powerwalls in July 2025 alone, underscoring the technology’s growing importance in solar-powered homes and grid support programs worldwide.
