Tesla Vehicles Could Get Native Starlink Internet, Musk Hints

Tesla vehicles may one day ship with Starlink internet built in, if Elon Musk has anything to say about it. On Tuesday, Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke praised Tesla’s newly launched Model Y L in China, calling it “an amazing car, especially for the price.” He added that the six-seat Model Y L would be even better if it came with a Starlink Wi-Fi hotspot for passengers.
Musk, never one to shy away from cross-pollinating between his companies, replied with a simple but telling response: “Good idea.” That one-liner was enough to spark speculation that integrated Starlink Wi-Fi could be added to Tesla’s growing list of upcoming features. Lütke followed up by sharing an image of his own Tesla with a Starlink dish strapped in the back for on-the-go connectivity.
The Model Y L, a larger version of Tesla’s best-selling electric SUV, debuted earlier this week in China. Musk has already said the new variant won’t begin production in the U.S. until late 2026, if ever.
Tesla offering native Starlink Wi-Fi isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. The company has already deployed Starlink internet at many Supercharger stations worldwide. Extending that integration directly into Tesla vehicles would not only enhance passenger entertainment and work capabilities but also solve connectivity gaps in areas where cellular networks don’t reach — like long road trips through remote regions.
Musk has a track record of marrying his different companies, whether it’s merging X with his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, earlier this year, or powering xAI data centers with Tesla Megapacks. If history is any guide, Starlink in Tesla cars feels less like a question of “if” and more of “when.”
