Regulatory filings in China have revealed the official range figures and specifications for Tesla’s upcoming Model Y L and Model 3+ variants, weeks after both vehicles were formally announced.

The data, released as part of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)’s latest vehicle batch eligible for purchase tax exemptions, confirms Tesla is pushing the limits of efficiency and range in its China lineup.

The Model Y L, which was unveiled last month in China and is expected to launch this fall, now holds the title of Tesla’s longest-range SUV in the country. According to the MIIT filing, the Model Y L delivers 751 km of CLTC-rated range on an 82 kWh LG NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery, paired with dual motors producing 142 kW (front) and 198 kW (rear).

Notably, the new Model Y variant features a six-seat configuration and a curb weight of 2,088 kg, pointing to a larger body and potentially a longer wheelbase. The Model Y L’s battery pack energy density is listed at 176 Wh/kg, with the pack weighing 465 kg.

Meanwhile, the new Model 3+ variant, which also debuted last month, is even more impressive in terms of pure range. Filed under the model code TSL7000BEVBR1, it achieves up to 830 km of CLTC-rated range using a 78.4 kWh LG-supplied NMC battery and a single rear motor rated at 225 kW. It comes in at 1,760 kg curb weight and features a slightly higher pack energy density of 175 Wh/kg. This would make the Model 3+ the highest-range Tesla ever offered in China, if not the highest-range EV available in the country altogether.

The filings come shortly after the Model Y L was spotted in the wild, hinting that real-world testing is well underway ahead of its expected launch. With these specs now official, it’s clear Tesla is stepping up its China strategy by offering more capable, premium long-range EVs across its lineup.

Why do we have CLTC ratings when they are so far off real world numbers?
