SpaceX Starlink May Soon Support Shared Dishes to Lower Costs

SpaceX appears to be preparing a more affordable way to access its Starlink satellite internet service — by allowing multiple users to share a single Starlink dish (via PCMag).

The company quietly published details about a new offering called Starlink Community, spotted on a support page for authorized resellers. “Starlink is launching a new affordable way to deliver high-speed internet: one Starlink, multiple subscribers—each with their own Starlink account and seamless experience,” the company wrote on the support page.

Unlike the standard Starlink setup, where one terminal is tied to a single subscriber, the Community model would allow multiple users to connect via their own Wi-Fi routers to a shared dish. SpaceX says Community Hosts will be responsible for “acquiring, installing, and maintaining Starlink kits,” as well as “onboarding Community Subscribers.” Hosts can also earn commissions for each subscriber they bring on.

The upcoming plan was first spotted in Canada by Jianping Pan, a computer science professor at the University of Victoria. While it’s expected to eventually launch in the U.S. and Canada, Pan suggests Starlink Community is geared more toward international markets — where the company is looking to drive growth by offering lower-cost internet access.

Sharing a communal Starlink dish will not only reduce upfront hardware costs for each user, but also bring down the monthly subscription fee, making high-speed satellite internet more accessible and affordable. A Community plan pass will reportedly cost $60 USD per month, significantly less than the $80/month Residential Lite and $120/month standard Residential plans.

Starlink Community also includes a Community Hotspot option, designed for short-term access on a single device, although details are still sparse.

The move follows other recent Starlink updates, including direct bank account billing support in the U.S., and a deeper dive into the network’s beam switching technology, which keeps terminals connected even with partial obstructions like trees or buildings.

No launch date for Starlink Community has been announced yet, and SpaceX has not officially commented on the program.
