Tesla is nearing the launch of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software in Australia, with no regulatory hurdles in the way, according to the company’s top executive for the region.
Thom Drew, Tesla’s Country Director for Australia and New Zealand, confirmed that FSD (Supervised) has cleared the regulatory review process in both Australia and New Zealand and is now undergoing final validation before a public rollout.
“We have been working with local authorities across AU & NZ and there are no regulatory blockers for release,” said Drew in a Thursday comment on LinkedIn. “We are running through the final stages of validation prior to public release. Looking to start with HW4 on certain vehicles and then release in phases from there.”
Tesla Australia (@TeslaAUNZ) even shared footage on Wednesday of FSD (Supervised) in action on Sydney’s roads, signaling a near-term launch could be imminent.
The update follows Tesla’s expansion of its Early Access program for FSD (Supervised) earlier this year, as the company looks to broaden availability of its advanced driver assistance system beyond the U.S. market.
FSD (Supervised) allows Tesla vehicles to autonomously navigate city streets, make turns, handle traffic lights, and more — albeit with constant driver supervision. Meanwhile, Tesla is testing what CEO Elon Musk previously teased as the “Unsupervised” version of FSD with its Robotaxi pilot program in Austin, Texas. However, each ride is still monitored by a Tesla Safety Monitor riding shotgun, for now.
With validation wrapping up and no regulatory red tape in sight, Australian Tesla owners could be among the next to experience the company’s most advanced autonomous driving software yet.
